John the Balloon Man and Karen the Hula Hoop Lady were happy to be back at Goldston Old Fashion Day on October 13, 2018, with perfect weather and a dry enough children’s area.
Pumpkin Festival in Spring Hope, NC
John and Karen were invited to bring hoops and balloons to the 47th annual Pumpkin Festival in Spring Hope, NC, on October 6, 2018 (link goes to the 2019 event, which has more information than any of the public 2018 posts). It was a great day for a festival, overcast and cool changing to warm and sunny by the end of the day.
John set up the balloon twisting station on the porch at the train station.
We had space to play with hula hoops in front of the train station.
The festival has lots of activities and ends with a great parade, full of vintage cars, marching bands, and beauty queens.
The picture below show the parade from the train station porch, in the order they came by.
Lots of vintage cars.
Politicians, beauty queens and car clubs.
Marching bands from all the Nash County high schools.
The Shriners sent the plushie crew. John danced with the clowns.
The local fire departments sent shiny red trucks.
Balloons and Hooping at the 2016 Clydefest
John the Balloon Man and Karen the Hula Hoop Lady were happy to be part of the 2016 Clydefest on Saturday, September 24, at the Bynum Ballpark.
We had hula hooping and giant bubbles on the infield.
Music in the tent, and aerial dance on silks, and the Bouncing Bulldogs, from Durham.
John the Balloon Man had a steady line all day long, but people who waited were able to stand in the shade of the tent. (That might be confirmation bias showing–it was HOT for this time of year!)
The Clydefest regulars were in attendance, too: Peter Loose and his tortoises, from Georgia, plenty of fun games for children, a painting tent, and great food.
Looking forward to next year!
2015 Goldston Old Fashion Day
The 2015 Goldston Old Fashion Day opened to light rain that was supposed to stop, but didn’t.
A budding civil engineer helps drain the pond that spread in the tent.
John the balloon man stayed busy keeping the swordfighters stocked with fresh weapons.
One last balloon for a little girl in a pink raincoat!
Even thought it was wet, we had fun and look forward to next year’s event!
Clydefest 2015
John the Balloon Man and Karen the Hula Hoop Lady were back at Clydefest 2015 in Bynum Ball Park, celebrating the life and work of Clyde Jones, again this year! It was a beautiful day and everyone had a wonderful time.
Thanks so much to the event sponsor Chatham Arts, who host and organize this event every year!
Here are some of our pictures.
Setting up and walking around before anyone arrived
The crowd
We don’t get much chance to stop and take pictures during the actual event, so this is one picture of the entire ballpark as the crowd started to arrive when the gates opened at 11 am.
