John the Balloon Man and Karen the Hoop Lady participated in the 2014 Croaker Festival in Oriental, NC. Hurricane Arthur blew through two days before and missed Oriental, leaving the weather glorious and pleasantly cool.

Karen the hoop lady had her hoops available for people to play with on the lawn. This year’s Croaker Festival had the fastest “time to all hoops out!” of any event we’ve ever worked. The weather was perfect for hooping.

Hoops and Balloons at PC Medevac’s Carnival in Cary, NC

Karen the Hula Hoop Lady and John the Balloon Man took their fun and frivolity to the PC Medevac Carnival on Saturday, July 27, in downtown Cary, NC. The Carnival is held every year in support of Reedy Creek Elementary School’s Drive to Thrive program. The staff at PC Medevac collect school supplies to fill backpacks for children going back to school.

Fun at Croakerfest 2013, in Oriental, NC

John the Balloon Man and Karen the Hula Hoop Lady entertained children of all ages at Croakerfest 2013. After several weeks of exceptional rain, the weather cleared. Cool breezes kept the temperature bearable, and the festival was lively and active all day. CroakerFest is the prettiest festival we work all year. Some of these pictures explain why we like it so much.

Sunday in the Park, Goldsboro NC

Karen and I work at the Sunday in the Park event on First Sundays in Goldsboro, sponsored by Wayne County Parks and Recreation and the Wayne County Arts Council. June was a particularly fun day, with big crowds and perfect weather.

The Goldsboro fire department opened a hydrant and set up a power sprinkler so children could play in the water.

Sunday in the Garden, Goldsboro NC

Ubi the Clown and Karen the hula hoop lady brought hoops and balloon animals to Sunday in the Garden for several years. The Arts Council of Wayne County sponsored the event.

The party was a regular part of the September calendar in Goldsboro.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene (August 2011) felled several trees in the park. By the time the trees were cleared, the Arts Council had moved to a new location downtown.

Sunday in the Garden was transformed into the Art in the Park event now held at Herman Park during the spring and early fall months.
